Notice of New
Transport Canada Requirements
To ensure continued regulatory compliance and the delivery
of high-quality Dangerous Goods training and documentation, please review the
following important updates.
Mandatory Transport Canada Requirement: CID
Registration
Status: Currently in Effect
Transport Canada has confirmed the following requirement:
“Any company must register with the Transportation of
Dangerous Goods Client Identification Database (CID) before TDG documents can
be reviewed by the Dangerous Goods Division or Inspectors. Registration is
mandatory under Part 17 of the TDG Regulations.”
— TDG Aviation, Transport Canada
Important Notice:
No further Dangerous Goods Manuals, manual amendments,
or training course changes will be processed without valid CID
registration.
What is Client Identification Number Used For?
Prior to Transport Canada initiating the review, queueing, or approval process for your organization’s TDG manual, training program, or certificates, your assigned Transport Canada inspector must have your organization’s 2025 Client Identification Database number on file.
The CID is Transport Canada’s official mechanism for identifying organizations involved in dangerous goods activities and for understanding the nature and scope of those activities.
How Does a CID Assist Your Organization?
It ensures that submissions are correctly associated with your organization and directed through the appropriate regulatory oversight channels.
For this reason, completion of the CID registration process is a prerequisite to the submission of TDG manuals or training programs to Transport Canada for approval, even once the documentation has been fully developed.
If your organization imports, offers for transport, handles, or transports dangerous goods in Canada, registration in the Client Identification Database may be required. Completing the CID questionnaire will determine whether registration applies to your operations and, where applicable, will result in the issuance of a CID number.
Completing this step in advance helps prevent administrative delays and supports a timely and efficient review process once your documentation is submitted.
